Summer Training Surge

Fort Knox is currently hosting thousands of additional personnel and visitors as part of its annual Cadet Summer Training (CST) missions. This massive influx of trainees and their families is expected to continue through August 14, creating a heightened tempo across the installation.

Impact on Commuters

Installation officials have issued warnings regarding extended wait times at various entry points. While commuters typically clear gates in under three minutes, those timelines are expected to increase significantly during upcoming CST Family Days and graduation ceremonies.

Traffic Mitigation Strategies

To manage the volume, the Directorate of Emergency Resources has increased surge capacity. Most gate entrance lanes will be open during peak morning hours (6:30–9:00 a.m.) on weekdays. However, officials recommend that regular commuters avoid the main Chaffee Gate during these busy event mornings, suggesting the use of the Brandenburg or Wilson gates as alternatives to bypass the surge in visitor traffic.
